چکیده

Object-Oriented Database Management Systems break up into two components. The object manager deals with the management of logical objects and relies on the object store which implements system and transaction related features and manages physical objects. The efficiency of the object store strongly depends on the way memory and distribution management aspects are considered. Such aspects include addressing, concurrency control management, distribution management and cache management. The Arias distributed-shared-memory system characteristics provides an interesting framework for those aspects and for building an efficient scalable applications. This papers shows how we used the Arias system for designing and implementing the VIRTUOSE distributed object store. VIRTUOSE provides the same interface than O2Store (the O2 system’s object store) making it usable by concrete existing O2 applications.

Design of a Virtual Store Using Distributed Object Technology

This paper describes aspects of a research project in the area of distributed object technology. The main focus of the research is the use of this technology within the domains of Groupware and Multimedia applications. As part of this research an internet based Virtual Store has been developed as a test-bed for an enhanced object event service. The Virtual Store was designed using UML and uses ...

A Cost-Based Approach to Performance Analysis of Distributed Object Stores

Monitoring the performance of programs running on massively parallel computers or distributed systems is an extremely difficult problem because of the volume of information generated and the complexity of interactions between components of the program. This problem is made even more difficult by the new parallel programming paradigm provided by “distributed object stores”. This paper discusses ...

Multicomputer object stores: the Distributed Texas experiment

The paper is about design of object stores for distributed memory computers. Problems of distribution within such stores are described through the design of Distributed Texas, a system derived from the Texas store [6] and implemented on a scalable multicomputer (a Fujitsu AP1000). Problems discussed include creating a single image of an object space across multicomputer architectures, tradeoffs...

WEA, a Distributed Object Manager Based on a Workspace Hierarchy

WEA is our implementation of a new architectural model for virtual memory access, the WorkSpace. It relies on a generalisation of client / server model and enables to build new distributed applications. The workspace supplies uniform access to a distributed persistent object store. This paper describes several ways of building multi-workspace architecture, and an implementation of this architec...

Creating a Relational Distributed Object Store

In and of itself, data storage has apparent business utility. But when we can convert data to information, the utility of stored data increases dramatically. It is the layering of relation atop the data mass that is the engine for such conversion. Frank relation amongst discrete objects sporadically ingested is rare, making the process of synthesizing such relation all the more challenging, but...
